El Retiro

Lanquín. The day after Semuc Champey. Daniel tells the afternoon.

Daniel

El Retiro sits on the river. Friendly guests, an easygoing party, a dinner that's expensive for Guatemala at about eight dollars and worth it once the beer is counted. We had haggled the night before by offering to sleep in our own hammocks. Prices move if you bring the bed.

The next day was the good kind of doing nothing that is actually doing a lot. Exercises, the river, and then the slackline. Logan and Ray put on a show and gave lessons to the other travelers. By association I am assumed to know what I'm doing. This is amusing, and it is wrong. The past few weeks have been an education in accepting other people's disappointment with grace.

The people and the cows learned well. The picture from the afternoon was captioned Mango Cats.
